Reading: The classroom library is packed with exciting novels for students to enjoy independently. We are continuing with "The Sign of the Beaver" in our reading center. We are desperately needing gently used books to add to our library.
Race Car Mania: We are enjoying the time with the kids during our Reading Crew Friday time of 10:20-11:20. You can tell each child is doing such a great job reading at least 20 minutes a night. They love talking about the book to us. Each child has also created a one-of-a kind sports car that they are placing on the Race Car bulletin board under the number of how many books(mile markers) they have read. Our goal is for them to read the equivalent of at least 600 pages (approximately 6 books) during each nine weeks. After they have completed the book they turn in a book review to us and the printed results of the AR test they have taken over their book read. Then they are able to move their race car to the next mile marker. Every book does not have to be on the AR list, but many are. We ask that the kids do not read comic books but good, quality reading. Every child who meets the goal of reading 600 pages at the end of each nine weeks will get to participate in the pizza party in the classroom during lunch. We will have pizza, music and dessert. Each Friday, each child is to turn in the record of their reading on their "Reading Log" that they received in class. Also, note daily minutes read on the Mustang Million calendar. When MPE reaches a million minutes read, the whole school will receive an ice cream party!
**SPECIAL NOTE**
New nine weeks began on October 14 and ends on December 18. Students must read at least 600 pages. Please help keep your child "on track"!Thanks to all the parent volunteers for Race Car Mania: Julia Eidson, Kris Mock, Meena Natarjan, Carrie and Tony Rosenberg, Stacy Fry, Kristin Schoonover, Amy Benson and Ann Drury.
